Dear Members and Friends...
As we move through the final quarter of 2025, it’s clear that our industry continues to face both new challenges and exciting opportunities to continually raise health and safety standards in cargo handling.
This edition of Insights highlights some of the ways ICHCA and our members are responding. Our new IMDG Code e-learning course is now live, supporting safer handling of dangerous goods. Entries are also open for the TT Club Innovation in Safety Award — a chance to showcase the creativity and commitment to safety that define our sector.
We also share resources that address today’s pressing risks: lessons from G2 Ocean’s latest safety bulletin, a powerful new video on sling damage, and a TT Club/Haskoning report urging urgent action to safeguard ports and supply chains against climate change. And with the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee meeting this month, it’s a good reminder of ICHCA’s role in ensuring the voice of cargo handling is heard in global regulatory discussions.
Each of these stories reinforces the same truth: raising standards comes from continuous learning, collaboration and innovation. Thank you for being part of that journey.
Let’s keep raising standards, together.

The global supply chain will suffer as ports face ever-mounting threats from sea-level rise, extreme weather and shifting regulations, with billions of dollars in trade and infrastructure already at risk each year, according to a new report.
Developed by leading global transport and logistics insurer TT Club, in collaboration with international engineering consultancy Haskoning and supported by ICHCA International, the Urgent Guidance for Ports, Waterways and Logistics Operations report takes a deep dive into the potential consequences of climate change on ports, and includes a practical roadmap to strengthen climate resilience in maritime operations.

5. Video: The Hidden Risks of Sling Damage and Misuse
Textile slings are widely used in cargo handling, but even small amounts of damage or incorrect use can significantly reduce their strength - in the worst case by more than 70%.
ICHCA member Checkmate, and Prodragon both working in Association with G2 Ocean have produced a 6-minute video showing real testbed results of sling failures under different conditions. The video highlights how poor inspection routines or improper use can leave defective slings in service, exposing workers and operations to serious risks.
