August 2025

Dear Members and Friends...

Innovation, Insight, and the Everyday Work of Safety

Practical steps, shared ideas, and a collective commitment to safer cargo handling.

August often offers a pause – a moment to catch our breath, take stock, and look ahead. For ICHCA, it’s a chance to reflect on the year’s progress and the challenges still to tackle in making cargo handling safer for everyone.

This edition is packed with practical action: our new safety video highlights the hidden dangers of poor cargo documentation; fresh tools aim to make container lashing safer and more ergonomic; and our ongoing analysis of high-consequence hazards keeps the spotlight on risks that demand our attention every single day.

We’re also counting down to the TT Club Innovation in Safety Award. This isn’t just a competition – it’s a platform for ideas that can save lives. If you’ve been developing a safety innovation, big or small, now’s the moment to share it and inspire others.

Wherever you are this month – on the quayside, in the office, at sea, or recharging on leave – I hope these updates spark ideas, conversations, and actions. Safer supply chains start with knowledge, but they’re built by people who choose to act on it.

Let’s keep raising standards, together.

6. The work of the IMO and the latest Current Awareness Bulletin

ICHCA is proud to be a recognised Non-Governmental Organisation at the International Maritime Organisation. It means that the cargo handling industry has a voice when amendments to international regulations and codes of practice are being made.
