July 2024

Dear Subscriber...

Welcome to the July edition of ICHCA Insights.

This month, following our best ever yet Safety Village at TOC Europe, we are excited to announce that this year's Innovation in Safety Award will be open to entries on 2 September 2024. The award goes from strength to strength with extraordinary and potentially life saving innovations spotlighted every year. We look forward to seeing what our brilliant industry has been developing to continually improve health and safety and ensure that our people go home safe at the end of their shift. Eager entrants can download the application form and pack via the link below.

Thanks to ICHCA member G2 Ocean, we draw attention to the significant risk of objects dropped during lifting operations and the potential for fatal consequences. The safety bulletin gives recent case studies of several fallen objects that were not cargo, reminding everyone of the need to ensure that work never takes place under a suspended or moving load.

Our most recent ICHCA Radar shares with members some of the topline findings and provides a link to the full 2023 AMSA Vessel Inspections Report. If you are interested in finding out which vessel types were more likely to have Port State Control deficiencies and which vessel types performed best, see that article below.

One of the key services that we offer to members is the opportunity to ask the ICHCA community technical health and safety questions. This confidential process allows members to test what is good practice in the industry and learn what others are doing on specific topics. If you have a question or would like to benchmark how you do what you do, the ICHCA Technical Enquiry service is ready and available to help.

Finally, we include a link to the latest Current Awareness Bulletin, providing updates on matters associated with the International Maritime Organisation and its work.

Let’s keep raising safety standards together!
