Welcome to the October ICHCA Insights newsletter. This month we are especially excited about our first open invitation ICHCA Technical Panel meeting on 28 October, part of the TOC Connect event. We have four world-class webinar sessions lined up for you. Two feature leading edge research on health and safety culture and data. This is evidence led content with practical application. Operationally, we have campaigning work on safety alongside, how to manage vessel/shore safety from a world-wide terminal operator. Rounding out our quartet is a session looking at the authentic experience of cargo handling workforces, and the opportunities to use their understanding to improve health, safety and operational resilience throughout the supply chain. The ICHCA Technical Panel meeting will be held on 28 October 2021 at 14:00 BST. We are very excited to welcome four world-class speakers to the ICHCA Technical Panel Meeting.

We are delighted to announce this meeting is open to the ICHCA Technical Panel Members, ICHCA International Members and anyone else who would like to join the meeting.

2. Member Spotlight: GCT Deltaport goes the extra mile to support seafarers in quarantine.
|
|
We were pleased to hear this story about how a port took it upon themselves to show extra kindness to a vessel crew caught up in COVID quarantine. Congratulations to GCT Deltaport for reminding us all of the importance of valuing people throughout the cargo handling supply chain.
|
After over a year of working through the pandemic, GCT Canada, operators of GCT Vanterm and GCT Deltaport in the Port of Vancouver, had quickly adapted its processes and procedures. The terminals above and beyond measures included increased sanitation and PPE, physical distancing, and following all public health guidelines to ensure safe and healthy workplaces and fluid terminals. However, the ongoing challenges the pandemic has brought to the maritime industry, particularly seafarers, are numerous.

3. Event: Lifting and Safety in Ports and Maritime

Join us at the Lifting and Safety in Ports and Maritime event! 26 October 2021, 10am – 12pm (BST) via Zoom

Richard Steele from ICHCA will be speaking alongside PD Ports and LEEA, delving into safety issues surrounding work around ports and maritime organisations.
|
|
This is free to attend, open to anyone who works in the ‘wet logistics’ industry and it’s a great opportunity for knowledge to be shared.
|

4. Thinking of entering...? Check out previous winners of the TT Club Innovation in Safety Award
|
|
Entries are now coming in for the 2021 TT Club Innovation in Safety Award. You are also invited to make a submission, anyone involved in cargo logistics who can show a demonstrable improvement to safety is welcome to make an application.
|
ICHCA International, the global cargo handling association, has opened the 2021 TT Club Innovation in Safety Award, which aims to highlight the importance of safety at a time of increased operational demands on cargo handling infrastructure and operations worldwide.
