Dear Subscriber...
Welcome to the May 2023 ICHCA Insights Newsletter.
The temperature’s rising as we accelerate towards the bigger, central Safety Village at TOC Europe with our brilliant partners TT Club and TOC. Our goal is to use the Village to place health, safety and innovation firmly in the spotlight, showing the hard work, creativity, passion and commitment that is going on throughout our industry. More than that we want to get dialogue going, challenging the art of the possible. Members, partners and anyone with an interest in making sure that people go home from work in the same condition that they arrived, will be most welcome to join us on the Safety Village stand.
This month we launched a new aspect of our communications with members we call it the ICHCA Radar and it is an opportunity for us to share some of the content that comes across our screen, day to day. This may be material that is not directly part of our current headline workstreams. It may be up to the minute or have been around for a little while. But it always will be something that we think creates a ‘learning opportunity’. We hope that members will be able to take the radar pieces and create value for their organisations.
Our ICHCA Australia chapter can always be relied upon to deliver. I am delighted as always to draw reader’s attention to their monthly newsletter and the April edition is linked below.
Our new partnership with Transport Events continues to provide benefits for members with free access available to the Black and Caspian Sea, Ports and Shipping 2023, event in Istanbul. With over 350 expected delegates and dozens of sponsoring organisations this event aims to provide an opportunity for networking and learning.

ICHCA finds or is sent a wide range of industry related learning and informative content that is not necessarily part of an immediate workstream but which we think will be of interest to members. Where these appear on our radar, we will share a summary of points of interest and provide links for members to find out more.
In this ICHCA Radar we spotlight a report published in Nature addressing the natural hazard risk to global port infrastructure from multiple natural hazards. It looks at 50 ports and quantifies the risk of cyclone, fluvial, pluvial, coastal and earthquake hazards to physical assets and services (port-specific risk) and maritime trade flows (trade risk), finding that 86% of the ports considered are exposed to more than three natural hazards.
