Welcome to the October edition of ICHCA Insights. We are delighted to announce the signing of a joint MoU with The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) and are extremely pleased that ICHCA is now teaming up with such a highly respected organisation as PEMA; one that has a global reputation for passionate commitment and practical action to drive safety measures. We are very much looking forward to working together.

Entries are coming in for this year’s TT Club Innovation in Safety Award which is now part of a year- round programme promoting leading edge safety innovation. If you have an idea that has delivered health and safety improvements that others could also benefit from, please do submit an application to the award. The well-established programme will see the award ceremony in February 2024 and the Safety Village at TOC Europe in June 2024.

Please make sure that you put 22 November 2023 into your diary for the ICHCA AGM and Technical Panel virtual meeting. Thought provoking presentations and important learning will be on the agenda.

Finally, we are delighted to include the latest Current Awareness Bulletin, with IMO themes and news, along with the September edition of Inside ICHCA Australia.

1. PEMA and ICHCA Sign MoU to Advance Sustainable Practices and Safety Standards in the Cargo Handling Sector

Two international associations closely involved in the port and terminal industry are committing to cooperate in improving safety and sustainability across the global industry. The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) and International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCA) have announced their joint signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to effect their mutual aims.

The collaboration will enable each organization to better achieve their objectives through a programme of cooperation, which will include agreed actions and initiatives, meetings, sharing and exchange of information and ad hoc task forces to enhance their respective impact on issues and topics where both organizations have a common interest.

2. ICHCA Invites Submissions for 2023 TT Club Innovation in Safety Award

Entries are now coming in for the 2023 TT Club Innovation in Safety Award. You are also invited to make a submission, anyone involved in cargo logistics who can show a demonstrable improvement to safety is welcome to make an application.

ICHCA International, the global cargo handling association, launched the 2023 TT Club Innovation in Safety Award, and are now inviting entrants to submit details of their innovations by 13 November 2023. The Award, which is open to an individual, team or company involved in cargo logistics, has seen the prestige associated with winning or being highly commended, grow year-on-year. Past winners have ranged from individual entrepreneurs and specialist suppliers to employee teams in major industry businesses. Entrants are required to show that a product, idea, solution, process, scheme or other innovation has resulted in a demonstrable improvement in safety.

3. ICHCA AGM & Technical Panel Meeting

An Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday 22 November 2023, 14:00 to 14:30 BST. This on-line meeting is open to all current members.

It will be immediately followed by an on-line ICHCA Technical Panel meeting 14:30 to 16:30 which will be open to members and the wider industry. Joining details will follow in due course.


4. Current Awareness Bulletin - For IMO Themes & News - August 2023


The latest edition of the Current Awareness Bulletin is attached. The Bulletin provides a monthly digest of news and publications focusing on subjects and themes related to the work of IMO with each edition presenting headlines from the previous month.

Links to complete articles or abstracts on publishers’ sites are included, although access may require payment or subscription. The Bulletin itself is free to download and to redistribute.
