Dear Subscriber...
Welcome to the January 2023 ICHCA Insights Newsletter.
Wishing all of our readers happy, safe and prosperous 2023!
This month’s Insights begins with a message from our Chair, John Beckett. Reaffirming that professional sharing and engagement is at the heart of what we do, working together to drive continuous learning and improvement. This is why we are thrilled to present the TT Club Innovation in Safety Award once again in 2023; showcasing trailblazing ideas designed to make the workplace safer. On 23 February, the industry will find out which innovator has pushed the envelope farthest, turning potential into reality! Doubling down on communication and sharing ideas, we are also delighted to announce a new agreement with respected events organisation - and ICHCA member of course - Transport Events. Up to ten free delegate places are available for ICHCA members at nine different Transport Events conferences throughout the year. The 2023 programme visits Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands; the Middle East, the Black Sea; Baltic Sea and South East Asia with major opportunities to share ideas. For more information contact secretariat@ichca.com. I am excited about what we can achieve together in 2023, building on the dedicated work and ambitious ideas that ICHCA members consistently bring to the table. The range and depth of knowledge and experience found within the ICHCA and our partners community never ceases to impress. I look forward to working together with you all to make your operations healthier and safer

1. ICHCA Chair's New Year Message 2023
We all benefit from communication with likeminded professionals across a range of functions, to learn, collaborate and drive improvements. ICHCA exists to maximise those opportunities in our industry.
Operators who are concerned with the safety of their employees and the reputation of their businesses agree that we do better together. There is no competition when it comes to safety. We achieve a safer and more secure working environment by sharing our experiences, successes and even failures to better understand the myriad of dynamic challenges that face us all.
Through ICHCA you can communicate with and become part of a truly global community. You can request assistance, explain your own best practices and be part of solving common problems together.
We are passionate about cooperation with international bodies such as the International Maritime Organisation, the United Nations and International Labour Organisation where we actively advocate for and drive strategies to improve safety on the docks, at sea and where ships meet shore. Our role, particularly as a recognised NGO at the IMO, has grown in influence. We are a global presence and our ability to share knowledge and communicate effectively is continuously improving.

4. "Even more ambitious for ICHCA in 2023" - New Year Message from CEO Richard Steele
ICHCA members came together in 2022 to deliver an outstanding array of work packages; accelerating improvements in safety and health across the industry.
With partners we launched a Warehousing White Paper, setting out principles and a practical operational checklist for dangerous goods storage. February saw hugely successful TT Club Innovation in Safety Awards and publication of a 100+ page digest of the incredible creative ideas being delivered throughout our industry. Any organisation could look at the digest and see something to inspire their next game changing idea.
Our Spring Technical Panel considered video analytics, artificial intelligence and ending workplace violence. In June we introduced monthly Technical Panel Calls; an open forum where you decide what we discuss, ensuring that we explore topics of importance to you. We also took the innovation awards content on the road to the Rotterdam TOC Safety Village raising sharing of innovation to the next level.
