The Voice of Cargo Handling

Inside ICHCA August 2021 - 1

Dear Subscriber...

Welcome to the September 2022 ICHCA Insights Newsletter.

I am particularly excited that the TT Club Innovation in Safety Award season is upon us. Last year the award returned and demonstrated that our industry is consistently reaching towards new opportunities for safety and incident prevention. I can’t wait to see the creative and thought-provoking solutions that will come to the forefront this year. If you have an innovation yourself or know a partner organisation, customer or supplier who is leading the way, then we will be delighted to see it entered for the award. Working collectively with all talents is central to our mission; together we make cargo handling safer. It was brilliant to receive added new support to the warehousing safety guidance that we developed with partners IVODGA, NCB and WSC. Thanks go to the International Chemical Transport Association for their endorsement of this guidance. ICHCA has a library of bespoke industry publications on many topics. This month we highlight just one of these ‘Collision prevention at ports and terminals’ that we developed with TT Club and PEMA. It is always a pleasure to be able to highlight the excellent work of ICHCA Australia, recently seen at Megatrans 2022 in Melbourne. You can find a link to the latest edition of ‘Inside ICHCA Australia’ below. We have an action-packed programme of activities coming up in the next few months and our ‘Looking forward to September & October…’ story gives a taste of what is underway. I look forward to seeing members and friends of ICHCA at these events. Finally, I am thrilled to announce two new ICHCA members. The ILWU Canada and Port Technology International. Next issue we will look at each of them in more detail, but for now a huge welcome to both partners. We look forward to working with you.

Let’s keep raising safety standards together!

ICHCA-TT Club Awards 2022 - Final FRONT COVER ONLY
Following the successful re-introduction of the Award in 2021 with its record number of entries, the 2022 award will form the centrepiece of TT Club and ICHCA’s on-going efforts to encourage players in the freight transport and cargo handling sectors further in continuing to improve operational safety and efficiency through innovation.

ICHCA International, the global cargo handling association, launched the 2022 TT Club Innovation in Safety Award today inviting entrants to submit details of their innovations by 11 November 2022. The Award, which is open to an individual, team or company involved in cargo logistics, has seen the prestige associated with winning or being highly commended, grow year-on-year.

Further support to comprehensive safety guidance issued by a collective of organisations late last year has been received through its endorsement by the International Chemical Transport Association (ICTA).
Drawing on the combined expertise and experience in the movement of dangerous goods around the world, several global trade organisations — International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCA), International Vessel Owners Dangerous Goods Association (IVODGA), National Cargo Bureau (NCB) and World Shipping Council (WSC) – jointly issued a White Paper entitled, ‘Safety Guidance for Dangerous Goods Storage and Handling Facilities’¹ in December last year.

3. Publication Spotlight: GS10 - Collision Prevention at Ports and Terminals

Collision-Prevention-GS10-1-1

In a bid to improve safety, reduce injuries and loss of life, equipment damage and minimize costly business disruption at ports and terminals worldwide, PEMA, ICHCA International, and TT Club, pooled resources to make available information to promote collision prevention.

The results of this research and consultation fall under the auspices of PEMA’s Safety & Environment Committee. All relevant stakeholders have been involved in the development of this project. PEMA represents container crane and technology suppliers, and TT Club and ICHCA International represent container terminals.
